ON FEMALE COLLECTIVE
I looked online to see if there was anything that connected with me. There wasn’t, really. So, I created an Instagram account to help motivate me, inspire me. What I never thought would happen is this community would become a platform for people to share with their friends, talk about ways to love themselves— how to go through that journey with ease but also facing challenges in a bold way and being vulnerable. Now, there are over one million people who follow this ideal.
ON RADICAL SELF-CARE
Radical self-care means you can't help others without helping yourself first. Within the Female Collective, I talk a lot about not only taking care of yourself, but taking care of the community around you. From there, you’re able to accomplish your own personal goals and the goals within the community around you. We’re all learning how our life feels is much more important than how our life looks.
I believe that everyday people can be activists — no matter where you come from, no matter what you’re doing in life, no matter what you look like. It just takes one tiny step, to help someone with something they’re facing in life. Activism doesn’t have to be a big, grand thing. It can be small steps. Being a friend to someone, speaking out for what they might need in life. It’s a big word that can be scary for people, but I think it’s a word that we should normalize.
